The forthcoming Firefox operating system is set to be manufactured by TCL Communication Technology (Alcatel) and ZTE, the company has confirmed.

Mozilla recently announced that it would be launching its own operating system entitled Boot to Gecko and it hopes to bring this out later this year or early 2013. It has since been confirmed that the OS will carry the Firefox brand.

There will be no shortage of mobile phone operators willing to support the platform either as the likes of Deutsche Telekom, Etisalat, Smart, Sprint, Telecom Italia, Telefonica and Telenor have all backed the idea.

Chief executive officer of Mozilla Gary Kovacs said the large number of operators on board with this effort will bring additional resources to it, ultimately adding to its diverse global offerings.

“The introduction of the open mobile OS continues the Mozilla mission to promote openness, innovation and opportunity on the web for users and developers,” he continued.
