HTC will focus on budget phones
HTC has announced that it will be turning its attention to producing more budget-friendly, low-end mobile phones.
It means that the HTC One, and its family, could be the last high-spec handsets that we will see from the Taiwanese manufacturers for a while.
The news comes as HTC announced that it expects to see a 15 per cent fall in profits from last year. It appears the move to low-cost phones will be to save the company some money in producing the items.
A decision to invest in more low-end devices is in massive contrast to what the firm was saying last year. HTC released its One and variants to compete with the tech giants of Apple iPhones and Samsung Galaxies, though it appears the move didn't work out for it.
This was echoed by HTC's financial chief Chialin Chang who said the company would look "at boarder products this quarter," in an aim to produce "better profitability" in 2014.
