Will Apple have key iPhone 8 features ready in time for launch?

Apple is currently preparing for what will be a pretty significant event for the smartphone industry – the launch of a new device marking the tenth anniversary of the iPhone.

The iPhone 8 – which might be known as the the iPhone X or iPhone Pro – is due to be unveiled this autumn at an event that will draw attention from all over the world.

However, amidst all the excitement and anticipation around what Apple is cooking up in its smartphone labs, there is talk of problems in the engineering and design process for the new phone.

Rumours suggest that the issues are linked to some of the new features that will distinguish the iPhone 8, such as wireless charging, 3D facial recognition and an OLED display.

Citing a source with knowledge of the current situation at Apple, Fast Company reported that designers and engineers are hard at work trying to find solutions to software problems that could, if left unresolved, result in the phone being launched with key functions disabled.

If this is the case, the company would enable the features at a later date through iOS updates when the software is ready.

On the wireless charging front, Fast Company’s source claimed that Apple is planning to use inductive charging – where the phone rests on a separate charging device – but is still working on incorporating this functionality into the iPhone 8’s software.

The same issue – with the hardware available but accompanying software causing problems – is thought to be affecting the development of the new 3D facial recognition sensor.

Apple will offer an OLED display for the first time with the iPhone 8, but is reportedly having problems finding the necessary manufacturing capacity to deliver enough screens.

We’ll have to wait a few more months to see whether Apple manages to overcome these development challenges in time for the launch of its new flagship phone.ADNFCR-2155-ID-801837778-ADNFCR
