Lenovo ends speculation with official reveal of Z5

Chinese technology giant Lenovo has ended months of rumours and speculation by finally lifting the lid on the Z5, its latest mid-range smartphone.

At an event in Beijing, the company showed off the final design of the Z5 for the first time, revealing a slick handset with a striking aesthetic and impressive capabilities. The device will be making its commercial debut in China this month, though Lenovo is yet to confirm any details about the Z5's international rollout.

The rumour mill has been in full effect when it comes to the Z5, with teaser posts from the company's vice president Chang Cheng stoking expectations that Lenovo was about to reveal a revolutionary all-screen device with 4 TB of internal storage space.

In the end, the final Z5 design falls more in line with current industry standards, but that's not to say it doesn't have plenty to recommend about it. Although the dream of a bezel-free aesthetic remains unachieved, the phone still manages to achieve an impressive 90 per cent screen-to-body ratio, with only a small notch interrupting the flow of the 6.2-inch 1080p display.

The notch is present to help accommodate the Z5's highly capable cameras, with a dual rear-facing camera consisting of a 16MP primary camera and an 8MP secondary camera, plus another 8MP camera on the front. AI technology will be used to enhance the performance of these cameras, delivering top-line image quality.

In terms of performance, the Lenovo Z5 will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset, coupled with 6 GB of RAM, an Adreno 509 GPU and a 3,300mAh battery with fast charge support. Memory-wise, the device will be available with 64 GB and 128 GB internal storage – not quite 4 TB, as reports had suggested, but a significant amount nevertheless.

The Lenovo Z5 will be in the hands of Chinese consumers soon, so the first reviews of the long-awaited handset are likely to emerge in the coming days.ADNFCR-2155-ID-801847055-ADNFCR
