The Asus Zenfone 5, a new player in the midrange smartphone market, was unveiled in February this year, catching attention with its snappy design and comprehensive range of features.
Now, Asus has revealed that its latest device will be arriving in the UK on July 9th, and will initially be available exclusively through the company's online channels. The device is priced at £349.99, but those who put down a preorder on the Asus webstore between June 26th and July 8th will be able to secure a £50 discount off that price.
People who'd prefer to wait for the phone to get a retail release will have to wait a little longer, but Carphone Warehouse and John Lewis have already confirmed that they'll be among the companies stocking the Zenfone 5.
Whether bought online or in-store, the new Asus phone promises to have plenty to offer for its relatively modest price tag. The Zenfone 5 utilises a striking glass design and a vibrant 6.2-inch, 19:9 Full HD+ display, achieving a 90 per cent screen-to-body ratio thanks to its embrace of the “notch” design principle popularised by the iPhone X.
Internally, the Zenfone 5 aims to balance performance with pricing, offering a Snapdragon 636 chipset and 4 GB of RAM, as well as a 3,300mAh battery and 64 GB storage. Standout features include its 8 MP front camera and 12 MP/6 MP rear-facing dual camera setup, augmented with AI capabilities to deliver the sharpest possible images.
The handset also comes loaded with a host of other appealing features, including stereo speakers, a fingerprint scanner and face recognition technology for unlocking the phone. As such, the device can offer users a broad range of functionality typically associated with more expensive models.
Asus has also developed a premium version called the Zenfone 5Z, which features a high-performance Snapdragon 845 chipset and up to 8 GB of RAM. However, no release details have been confirmed for this handset as yet.
