BlackBerry KEY2 launches in UK this week

After a few years on the sidelines watching Apple and Samsung bask in the limelight, the BlackBerry is looking to make a comeback in a big way with the launch of the all-new KEY2 smartphone.

The revamped version of the iconic device is available in the UK now from Selfridges. Carphone Warehouse will begin selling the phone on June 29th, when it will also be made available carrier-unlocked by Unlocked Mobiles, BuyItDirect, Mobile Phones Direct and Clove Technologies. Vodafone, meanwhile, will launch the KEY2 in July.

Manufacturer TCL Communication is looking to revitalise the classic BlackBerry experience with a number of impressive new additions to the KEY2, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, the latest Android 8.1 Oreo operating system, and the first ever dual rear camera setup seen on a BlackBerry.

These new features are designed to complement the iconic design elements for which BlackBerry phones have become famous, with the KEY2 once again incorporating a full physical QWERTY keyboard. Even here, improvements have been made with the addition of the Speed Key, a universal shortcut button that makes it possible to instantly access frequently-used apps, contacts and functions at any time.

Finally, efforts have been made to ensure the BlackBerry KEY2's security features are second to none, reflecting their traditional popularity among business users. Its DTEK application offers an at-a-glance security meter that demonstrates the overall security rating of the device, demonstrating how apps may be accessing data, while highlighting potential vulnerabilities and security optimisations.

Alex Thurber, senior vice president and general manager of mobility solutions at BlackBerry, said: “BlackBerry phones are the world's most secure Android smartphones. We design them for security from the inside out, and we're proud to partner with TCL Communication on the launch of their all-new BlackBerry KEY2.

“BlackBerry has been iterating and perfecting our approach to mobile security for decades, and we're excited to have this new genuine, modern BlackBerry smartphone available for our fans around the world to enjoy.”ADNFCR-2155-ID-801847382-ADNFCR
