Can I still sell a mobile phone if it doesn’t work?

We’ve all been there. One minute our faithful mobile handset is sitting innocently on the table, working perfectly. The next moment it’s covered in piping hot coffee and not working so well at all. Mobile phones get dropped, left outside in the rain, accidentally drowned in swimming pools and baths, chewed by pets, and even trodden on. Sometimes (thankfully not often), they just stop working for no obvious reason at all.

Does this mean it’s the end for the device which has given you so much? Absolutely not! In fact, if your phone is broken to the point, it no longer works, it can still offer you help. Discover why we love broken phones at Mazuma Mobile and what yours can do for you.

How do I prevent my phone from breaking?

We have come a long way from the indestructible Nokia brick; the modern-day smartphone offers much more than phones of old. From their sleek touchscreens reducing the need for buttons and the lightweight design making them much easier to carry around, the smartphone gives you the world at your fingertips.

However, their advanced components make them much more vulnerable to damage. Although most smartphones are made with sturdier materials, such as toughened glass, than when they were first released, no phone is perfect, and with the amount we use them, it’s no surprise they usually suffer damage over time.

Nevertheless, to help keep yours in tip-top shape, there are a few things you can do to protect it from the common issues we see as a phone recycling facility.

  • Screen protectors help prevent scratches and breaks on the touchscreen, which can stop the phone from being used.
  • Phone cases are a must to protect the casing of your device from accidental drops or bangs. Avoid silicone and ensure you get a sturdy one for the best protection.
  • Find somewhere safe to carry it. Many phones break in the bottom of bags, so perhaps look for a pocket in your bag to put it in or carry it separately.
  • Water damage is typical for smartphones, and although they are much more water resistant nowadays, keeping them out of direct contact with water where possible is always the best way to protect your device.

However, if you have tried everything to keep your phone in good condition, we understand that accidents do happen. So, if your phone is beyond affordable repairs, there is still hope, and your broken phone can still offer some assistance. Trade in your mobile with us and use it to help you buy a new one.

What kind of broken phones does Mazuma Mobile take?

If you want to sell your mobile, for example, sell an iPhone, but it’s not working anymore, don’t despair. We accept phones that don’t work perfectly as well as phones that do. Whether it’s a cracked screen, a software failure, or just a blank display, we can find a use for any mobile, whether as a whole unit or in parts. You can still sell broken phones to us if it doesn’t work. We accept a range of faults with phones while still offering you our best price. Some of the more common issues we often see with our mobile phone trade-in are:

  • Cracked screen
  • Doesn’t power on
  • Broken microphone
  • Broken speakers
  • Broken batteries
  • Missing batteries
  • Faulty buttons
  • Unresponsive touch screens
  • Excessive scratches, dents or cracks
  • Broken SIM card gate
  • Corrupted OS or other software issues

It couldn’t be easier if you may be wondering how it works to sell your broken phone. Just use the usual process to sell a mobile that is no longer in good working order. Our on-screen process will ask you whether or not the phone is working, and all you have to do is tell us that it isn’t. If you declare a phone as non-working, we’ll give you a revised value taking into account both the model and the non-working status so you will know how much you can expect to get for it. Note that phones with a broken or cracked screen but will still take and receive calls are classified as ‘non-working’, but a little bit of everyday wear and tear is acceptable in a ‘working’ phone.

Are there any broken phones Mazuma mobile won’t buy?

Unfortunately, whilst we try our best to give every phone a chance at a new life, there are many instances where we cannot accept broken devices. For example, if a phone is snapped in half, the inside components are no longer viable for refurbishment. This means we would have to send you the phone back and would be unable to purchase it.

As a responsible phone recycle facility, we also can’t accept phones which may have been stolen or used for criminal activities. We have an extensive testing process for any mobile we receive, allowing us to check the device’s history. If the smartphone has been blocked or barred by a manufacturer or network, we can’t accept it. Even if the phone has been wiped, we will still find out!

The importance of recycling your broken mobile phone

Each year the globe generates around 50 million tonnes of electronic waste. The disappointing fact is that much of the e-waste we create, as a population, could actually be repaired, but unfortunately, it ends up in landfills. In a landfill, the functional components are wasted and left to deteriorate, which can cause devastating effects on the environment. As the elements of the device break down, they form toxins that can harm water supplies and the soil, which can implicate the global food chain.

Recycling your phone is beneficial for manufacturing new devices and goes a long way to helping the planet. Even if a device is broken, it offers significant benefits to future devices. For example, even if much of a mobile phone is broken, we can still take out parts like the circuit board, the metal casing and other components, which could be recycled to create new parts for new devices. Alternatively, often all that is needed is a bit of TLC, and the phone could be back in usable condition. So, even if you think your phone is broken beyond repair, it can still offer new life to another device.

But wait…

It can also help you!

How can my broken phone help me?

Well, we all know how expensive a new phone can be. Whether you are looking to upgrade to a newer model or just replace the broken one, it can be a costly expense, which could even tempt you into buying it on contract to help spread the costs.

However, when you trade in your phone with us, you can get the cash in your bank within the same working day we receive your old phone. So, with our excellent prices, you can’t afford not to sell us your old devices. And the best bit is, we don’t just buy phones. We can take various smart devices off your hands and give them new life without harming the environment. Check out what else you could trade in for cash below:
