People may want to start planning to trade-in a mobile and switch to a handset that runs on the new Windows Phone 7 operating system, as it is reportedly due a significant upgrade.

Luke Johnson, author of a piece for T3, explains the revamp of the platform is thought to be a “massive” one that will enhance the experience enjoyed by users.

Although it has yet to be confirmed, it is said the update will take place in January and see multitasking capabilities added to the system.

Other benefits will include the addition of a copy and paste function and improvements to Bing Maps, Mr Johnson notes.

“Developers who claim to have been given the hands-on experience of the new Windows Phone 7 builds have suggested that the updates are very impressive,” he states.

Windows Phone 7 was launched recently by Microsoft and is a rival for established operating systems such as Android and iPhone.
