Mobile phone users who like to shoot their own films or record short video clips may have noted the hi-tech provision for such an activity within the Nokia N8.

This has been shown off in the new film The Commuter, which was shot entirely using the model, explains Ian, author of the latest Nokia Conversations blog.

The latest model by the Finnish brand features high-definition (HD) video recording technology, as well as a 12-megapixel camera.

With Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel in the lead role, the movie is now available via YouTube.

Patel is quoted by the blog as stating: “The quality of a camera phone allows filmmakers to produce amazing HD movies and I hope The Commuter shows aspirational filmmakers that you can create a great movie [with] a mobile phone.”

Nokia released the N8 earlier this month and announced plans for a host of other handsets to be launched in the coming months.
