Social networkers may find that selling mobile phones in order to switch to a smartphone that supports their chosen portal is a good move.

In particular, investing in a handset that provides access to Twitter could be wise, especially among those who speak different languages.

That is because the website has used its official blog to announce that it is to start accepting tweets in five more native tongues.

These will be simplified and traditional versions of Chinese, Malay, Tagalog and Hindi.

In total, Twitter can now be used by speakers of 17 different languages, all of whom could choose to access it from their latest mobile.

Approximately 100 million people around the world now actively use Twitter and the introduction of the new languages is thought to increase its potential reach to half a billion.

InSites this week revealed there are about 37 million people in the UK who use social networks.
