Consumers who trade in mobile phones and switch to a device capable of offering contactless payment will benefit from the technology.

Simon Curtis, senior vice-president of strategic sales and business development for, said the option is increasingly popular with Britons.

Indeed, he noted that many people have been using mobiles to pay for goods for “some time”.

“Consumers are now addicted to their smartphones, spending on average over three hours per day. Usage will increase with the next generation phones which are being introduced this year,” Mr Curtis stated.

Contactless payment is another practical advantage of owning one of the industry’s latest smartphones.

Orange and Barclaycard recently announced they have teamed up to launch a brand new phone that offers the technology.

The Samsung Wave 578 has a snazzy black design and is said to have a number of user-friendly features.
