Two BlackBerry models could be the perfect incentive to trade in mobile phones, after it was revealed they offer the potential for hi-tech payment.

Research in Motion (RIM), which manufactures BlackBerry products, has explained the Bold 9900 and Curve 9360 smartphones now have access to PayPass.

The system, which has been designed by MasterCard, allows people with the correct technology to make contactless payments in stores.

“Near field communication technology is making smartphones even smarter and the MasterCard certification is a significant step forward in helping transform the way we use mobile devices for payments,” stated Andrew Bocking, vice-president of handheld software product management at RIM.

France Telecom – Orange has suggested it believes the technology has the potential to revolutionise the mobile market.

RIM recently said one of the major reasons to invest in a BlackBerry device is the vast range of high-quality apps the brand offers.
