People will be able to keep track of Santa as he travels across the globe on Christmas Eve with the use of their mobile phone thanks to Norad.

Consumers with Google Maps or access to the website on their handset can follow Santa by searching for him on December 24th and they will discover where in the world he currently is.

The online tracking system has been available to the public since 2004 and has expanded since then to provide users with video updates from select locations around the world.

More than eight million people tuned in to the service last year, making it the biggest year ever for following the festive progress of the man in red.

Norad’s Santa-tracking began as long ago as 1955, when a Sears and Roebuck magazine advertisement in Colorado Springs accidentally directed readers to call Norad instead of the "Talk-to-Santa" hotline it was advertising.
