Two new LG handsets have been on display at the CommunicAsia 2009 event in Singapore this week.

Originally unveiled in February this year, the first of the two devices is the LG GD900 Crystal – which the manufacturer claims is a world first in terms of touch technology.

The model has a transparent keypad which works in the same way as a laptop trackpad – allowing the unit to recognise handwriting and provide a new navigational option called Gesture Command.

"Users can switch instantly among applications by simply drawing one of 12 easy symbols on the Crystal touchpad," LG said.

In addition, the firm was showcasing the LG GM370, a smartphone that aims to offer the latest technology – while remaining easy to use.

"Starting with LG GM730, we are introducing a new direction for phones that are smart and advanced but at the same time, user-friendly," said company chief executive officer of mobile business Dr Skott Ahn.
