Consumers recycling mobile phones may have been among the many that appear to have opted for the LG Arena KM900 as an upgrade.

Figures released from the manufacturer this week indicate the multimedia smartphone was able to generate over a million pre-order enquiries ahead of its launch.

LG also said the Arena – which was announced in March this year – has now sold around 300,000 units across Europe within the first month of its availability.

One of the main reasons the gadget has been such a success, the firm added, was the inclusion of the award-winning integrated user interface (UI).

Jeremy Newing, head of marketing at the firm in the UK, commented: "LG’s intuitive 3D S-Class UI is fast and dynamic, delivering a sense of fun and interaction not found on any other mobile platform."

Last month, it was announced the system had been chosen for a gold-standard accolade as part of the iF Communication Design Awards.
