The number of people potentially interested in selling mobiles and switching to the new Apple iPhone 4S is huge, if internet activity figures are anything to go by.

New figures from BT have revealed that there was a notable hike in the total number of users online last Wednesday (October 12th) night, once the new iOS 5 operating system became available.

The platform is to form the basis of the new iPhone 4S and is also available to download for existing Apple customers.

BT Operate stated that web traffic was at its highest ever level when the operating system was released last week.

Indeed, it even beat the volumes recorded when England were playing in a football World Cup match by about 80Gbps.

"We've seen the highest ever traffic levels over BT Retail's broadband network in the UK, with unprecedented demand for Apple's new iPhone operating system," stated John Petter, managing director of BT Retail.

The new iPhone 4S contains more than 200 brand new features.
