Starbucks fans may be interested to learn that the company has revealed it will be releasing a new app on Apple iPhone and iPod allowing customers to pay via their phone.

The software, which is already available in the US, will be coming to UK mobiles in the new year, Pocket-Lint reports.

Using one-touch technology, the app will allow mobile payment in approximately 700 stories in the country.

Marketing and category vice-president for Starbucks UK and Ireland Brian Waring said there is a demand for services that can make the purchasing process quicker.

He remarked: "Because our customers want it, we have created our own custom-built mobile payment technology rather than waiting for the near field communication technology which is currently not widely available."

CNET recently reported that the Apple iPad 3 is one step closer to production after work on its high-resolution screen began, with a 7.85-inch display said to be lined up for the product.
