Vodafone has put the recently unveiled Sony Xperia X mobile phone up for pre-order on its website, and it is available for free on a £42-per-month, two-year contract.

On this tariff, users will be able to take advantage of unlimited minutes and text messages, meaning there is no excuse not to stay in touch with friends and family.

There is also 2 GB of mobile data provided, although customers who purchase the device from this carrier will only be able to use 3G connections for now.

EE is currently the only operator in the UK to offer a 4G network, so aspirant owners looking to take advantage of the gadget's Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology should order their handset from there.

Sony's flagship smartphone boasts a five-inch high-resolution touchscreen alongside a powerful quad-core processor and 13-megapixel camera.

Android Jelly Bean operating system is pre-loaded, meaning owners have access to the 700,000-strong app library as well as an extensive catalogue of movies, music and books.
