People who are tired of the traditional mobile phone can already get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch. However, people in the UK, and parts of Europe, will be able to pick between devices as Sony releases its SmartWatch 2.
The device was first announced in June this year (2013), and users will be able to pick up the Android-toting device for £149, or with a fancy metal strap for £169.
It has launched alongside the release of an accompanying app which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store now. The free SmartWatch 2 SW download will allow the smartwatch to connect with Android smartphones over Bluetooth.
Sony's SmartWatch 2 is water resistant and has NFC support and could cause some competition for Samsung's Galaxy Gear which was only launched in the UK last month (September).
There have been many rumours that Apple is developing an iWatch, though there has been no confirmed word from the company. Although a predicted release period is unknown, time is running out for the Cupertino firm to produce one this year (2013).
