A new software upgrade could tempt consumers to sell mobiles and switch their handset to a Nokia N9.

The model's v.11 update will bring a whole host of new features and improvements over the course of the coming days and weeks, with music controls added to the lock screen – allowing users to control what they're listening to without having to find the music player, reported Nokia Conversations.

Elsewhere, black and white, sepia, vivid, negative and solarise filters have been added to the phone's camera as an added bonus for keen photographers, while the standby screen will now show calendar notifications and charging statuses.

Faster mail services are now available thanks to the update and memory-handling features have also been improved.

Nokia recently announced a free Wi-Fi trial – which will last until the end of the year – near West End shopping areas in London, providing users with wireless internet access without them needing to pre-register or sign up.
