Some of the most exciting technologies on display at the Consumer Electronics Show last month were smartphones, it has been claimed.

According to Ollie Robertshaw of, among the “hottest new devices” at the expo were a selection of new mobiles aiming to challenge the Apple iPhone in the marketplace.

He referred specifically to the Motorola W233 Renew, the Nokia N97 and the Logic Bolt as being among the standouts, although the handset that appeared to attract the most praise from experts was the new Palm Pre.

Last month it was confirmed that the Palm Pre would get a release date for the UK sometime this year.

One mobile phone device not receiving plaudits from Mr Robertshaw, however, was a new hands-free system from Cell-Mate, which consists of strapping a phone directly to the ear.

He put it in “last place” out of all the technologies on display at the event.
