Those looking to recycle mobilephones in order to find a cheaper way to make calls may be interested in 3 Mobile‘s latest contracts.

It was announced this week the network is to boost its Skype offering by providing more free options to users of the voice over internet software application.

From May 1st, users with a 3 Mobile sim card and compatible handset can make unlimited free Skype-to-Skype calls, as well as use the system’s instant messaging service, without incurring any data or top-up charges.

The carrier states the move is something of a “world first” and its chief executive officer in the UK Kevin Russell added it was based on the popularity of web-based telecommunications.

“We want people to be free to communicate from their mobiles in the same way as they do from their PCs,” he said.

Skype was made available on the Apple iPhone recently, which prompted 3 Mobile to remind users it has offered the service for some time.
