Twitter fans could soon wish to upgrade their existing handset to a new model, following a recent announcement from 3UK.

Users of phones on the mobile network will be able to make use of Twitter on their device for free for the “foreseeable future” it has been revealed.

This may come as welcome news to customers with mobile internet as an add-on and those on a Pay as you Go phone, as the amount of credit available will not halt the free offer.

Charlotte Blanchard, director of products and services at 3UK, said: “Our 3G network is purpose built for internet services like Twitter and we’re always looking for new ways to make these easy and affordable to use.”

She added the company has chosen to extend the offer of free Twitter to its customers, following the “immense success” of the service in the last few months.

The network recently revealed that two months free access to Spotify Premium will be made available to users of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 and Vivaz.
