Smart mobile phones and media tablets will continue to see extremely strong growth in the first six months of the year.

According to ABI Research’s Technology Barometer survey, 25 per cent of respondents said they intended to buy a smartphone during the first half of 2012.

The anticipated release of the follow-up to the hugely successful Samsung SII and iPhone 5 is expected to happen at some point this year, which could see a huge increase in the number of people looking for new smartphones.

Senior analyst at ABI Research Michael Inouye said the idea of connecting a mobile phone to a TV screen is something that is going to become increasingly popular for consumers in the coming months.

“Connectivity continues to present new opportunities for all members within the value chain to enrich the user experience and mobile devices will increasingly be an additive part of the equation,” he continued, before adding that mobile phones will sustain their current popularity in the long run.
