Consumers have been assured that when the time comes to sell mobile phones and upgrade to a newer model, they will be met with top touchscreen options.

Michael Woolstrum, chief executive officer of Touch International, admitted that there has been rapid progress in the industry in recent times and more of the same is expected.

He suggested that the way smartphones pull together numerous pieces of technology is similar to the range of features on offer via touchscreens.

"Touchscreens in the future will converge finger and pen input, combine touchscreen and display and offer multi-touch and non-touch or touchless gestures," Mr Woolstrum explained.

He went on to note that growth is recorded in the mobile industry as it encounters new offerings, such as self-service banking and online shopping.

Matt Brian, mobile editor at, recently suggested there will soon be touchscreens on the market that people can feel.
