People who sell mobile phones and upgrade to a superior device could use it to educate themselves.

Miles Berry, senior lecturer in ICT education at the University of Roehampton and vice-chairman of Naace, the ICT Association, explained that technology is playing an increasingly important role in learning in the UK.

He noted that there are a vast number of products on the market that can "provide opportunities".

"From assistive technology and automated translation though interactive activities which allow learners to progress at their own pace to online resources and communities," he said, summing up some of the options.

Another possibility is to use one of the latest smartphones in order to take advantage of educational apps and a fast and secure connection to the web.

David Patterson, director and consultant at, recently said that he believes learning on mobiles will increase in the future as it has great potential to become an education mainstay.
