Some observers may believe Nokia and Microsoft's decision to team up could lead to a revolution of the phone market, which those who sell mobiles now could be in a great position to take advantage of.

The two companies have today (April 21st) announced they have signed an agreement to put a global mobile ecosystem in place, ahead of the pre-set target.

Each will put its assets and knowledge forward in a bid to create a leading presence in the sector.

Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer at Microsoft, said: "Our agreement is good for the industry. Together, Nokia and Microsoft will innovate with greater speed, and provide enhanced opportunities for consumers and our partners to share in the success of our ecosystem."

In addition to confirming their partnership had been sealed, the firms revealed the first products they intend to launch are making good progress.

Nokia has recently released the E6 to add to its vast portfolio of top-quality handsets.
