Schools and teachers around the country may find an investment in the latest smartphones pays off handsomely over the coming months.

Education chiefs are being invited by O2 to film lessons from their institution and upload the clips to the network's website.

Students can then benefit from the learning resources in the run-up to exams, with the most-watched tutorials being awarded a cash prize from a fund of more than £300,000.

Experts will also be on hand to help the O2 Learn scheme select overall finalists for a grand showdown next autumn.

However, in order to stand a chance, schools may need to invest in modern mobiles now to capture their lessons on film.

Gav Thompson, creator of the project, says: "O2 wants to bring together the best teachers in the UK with the millions of young people that want access to the best teaching."

Among the devices that may be ideal is the Nokia N8, which is said to feature the latest video recording technology.
