Samsung is reportedly preparing to unveil a Galaxy S4 Active mini in the near future in a bid to compete in the smaller smartphone market.

Fans of the South Korean manufacturer have put the pieces together after a filing for a device called the Samsung GT-I8580 in China revealed images that look like a smaller version of the S4 Active.

A spec list indicates that the new device will have a 4.650inch screen with a resolution of 480 x 800, which is slightly smaller than its big brother, but well down in terms of image quality.

The lite version will be powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB of RAM, a drop from the original’s quad-core processor with 2GB or RAM.

A rear camera on the device is expected to be a five-megapixel version and the mobile will run the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system, alongside the same physical set up as the S4 Active.
