Owners of Samsung's flagship smart mobile phone the Galaxy S II will finally receive the long-awaited Android Ice Cream Sandwich update by mid-March, it has been claimed.

Samsung's Israel Facebook page has reportedly announced the date of the rollout as March 15th, which means there will be less than two weeks until the Galaxy S II joins with the Android 4.0 operating system (OS).

The system was launched last year and is Android's latest offering to bring in a raft of new features and improvements that so far people with the Samsung device haven't been able to benefit from.

"March 15th will be the release date for the Samsung Galaxy S2 upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich," the statement said.

Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S II aren't likely to have long to enjoy the benefits of Ice Cream Sandwich as the next two updates to the OS – Jelly Bean and Key Lime Pie – are being readied for the near future.
