A new handset has been added to the Research In Motion (RIM) range, which the company said offers “striking design and exceptional performance”

The BlackBerry Tour joins devices in the RIM catalogue including the Storm, Pearl and Curve and boasts a feature set that could inspire some to recycle use mobiles to fund an upgrade.

In addition to 3G and Bluetooth A2DP support, the new model comes with a 3.2-megapixel camera and onboard storage of 256 MB – expandable to 32 GB when using a microSD card.

Mike Lazaridis, president and co-chief executive officer of RIM, said “The new BlackBerry Tour will offer a compelling choice for the growing number of wireless customers looking to upgrade their existing cell phone to a smartphone.”

The Apple iPhone 3G was another smartphone being pushed this week ahead of its Friday launch. The manufacturer issued an email highlighting the speed of the upgraded handset, as well as the cut, copy and paste options.
