Those seeking innovative ways to recharge their mobiles might wish to recycle used phones and switch to a deal for a device with Orange.
That is because the network has unveiled plans to provide a T-shirt that can transfer sound into power for a mobile phone.
Indeed, plans for the invention are at such an advanced stage that it will be tested live at Glastonbury Festival.
The T-shirt works because it includes an A4-sized pane of Piezoelectric film, which acts as a microphone to absorb energy from the sound around it.
Andrew Pearcey, head of sponsorship at Orange, said: “Orange’s commitment and ethos around innovation is as strong as ever and we envisage that this pioneering technology could really change the face of mobile charging in environments where eco charging solutions [are needed].”
Everything Everywhere – the result of Orange’s merger with T-Mobile – last week revealed it intends to release specialist m-commerce technology for businesses.
