Trading-in a mobile and upgrading to a top-of-the-range smartphone with internet access may be something that appeals to fans of reality television, after one expert's findings were published.
Christian Howes, head of solutions engineering for digital intelligence specialist Webtrends, correctly predicted the outcome of last night's X Factor final by tracking social media portals.
Indeed, his results were almost identical to the actual number of votes cast in the public phone poll to determine a winner.
Matt Cardle, who won the series, attracted 44 per cent of the viewers' nominations and 40 per cent on Mr Howes' scheme, while runner-up Rebecca Ferguson scored 33 and 31 per cent respectively.
As such, investing in a new phone and following social media sites could be a good way for fans to come to their own conclusions about who is likely to win future programmes.
Boyband One Direction finished third and Cher Lloyd fourth in the final, which is estimated to have drawn up to 20 million viewers.
