Details about the handset are limited, however an article in the Wall Street Journal inferred that the mobile manufacturer is aiming to launch a new smartphone that can compete with rival company Apple’s iPhone.
“What I can say today is that what we’re trying to do is make sure our users can enjoy PlayStation gaming titles with our phones. We’re not ready to mention anything about that [handset],” said Hirokazu Ishizuka, corporate vice-president and head of Asia-Pacific for the handset maker.
He did not add further comment as to the exact nature of the plans but the possibilities could see exciting times ahead for technology lovers.
Currently phones such as the iPhone and selected Nokia handsets allow for a huge range of games to be downloaded by users direct to their phone and played while they are on the go.
Dan Grabham, deputy editor of TechRadar, recently suggested that the iPhone’s popularity is partly due to the range of free apps it has available.
