A new initiative designed to raise awareness of the internet may persuade people to recycle their old mobile phone so can they buy a new smartphone with web access.

Network provider Three has launched a Mobile Broadband Bus that will travel across the UK to encourage Britons to ‘get online’.

The bus will demonstrate the advantages of mobile broadband and it is also hoped the project will enable the UK to become the first place in the world where everyone knows how to use the internet.

Britons may be prompted to sell their old mobile so they can upgrade to a handset that offers web access.

UK Digital Champion Martha Lane Fox was at the launch and said: “With partnerships such as Three and UK Online Centres we can really achieve our goal of bringing more and more people into the wonderful world of the web.”

Earlier this week, Three announced it will be stocking the iPhone 4 at retail outlets across the UK.
