Although it has been out of the mobile phone market for a while, new reports suggest that Panasonic could use the upcoming MWC as a platform to make its return.

According to Japanese website Asahi, the tech giant is preparing a very robust smartphone for the Barcelona event at the end of next month (February).

This wouldn't be the first time that Panasonic has used such a big platform to launch a device. Back in 2012, the company released its Panasonic Eluga but the waterproof handset didn't really set the world alight.

As a result of that, the manufacturer took itself out of the competitive smartphone race but it looks as though the company could make a return.

There's not a lot of details about what a new Panasonic smartphone could bring but the site's unnamed sources say that it will be a five-inch, robust handset.

This would indicate that it could be targeting a mid-range audience that want a sturdy smartphone with no record-breaking specs.
