Users of Nokia mobile phones have named Ovi Maps as their favourite of all the apps offered by the company.

Rhiain, author of the Nokia Conversations blog, details the results, which show 29 per cent of the 1,300 respondents think the navigation service is one of their top three.

In second place is Opera Mini – an app that deals with web pages before they are displayed and makes them more user-friendly for a small screen – and in third is Skype, the tool that allows consumers to make international calls for a low cost.

"Hopefully, the results will provide a useful guide to how you might plug the remaining gaps in your own apps arsenal," Rhiain states.

Some people who currently own mobile phones by other companies may be tempted to trade-in and upgrade to a Nokia handset so they too can enjoy the firm’s apps.

A similar app store is run by Apple through its iTunes function, selling apps, music and video content.
