Orange High Definition (HD) Voice is expected to be rolled out by the end of the summer and trials are currently underway to test the feature.

The mobile phone network operator has revealed the trial is occurring across the south of England.

It is hoped testers will experience crystal-clear calls and high-quality sound, setting a new standard for the UK’s telecommunications industry.

Orange said callers feel as though they are in the same room because the distance between them is eliminated.

Commenting on the announcement, Tom Alexander, chief executive of Everything Everywhere, which runs Orange UK, said: "HD Voice represents a huge advance for the customer experience, a great leap forward for the mobile industry and we’re delighted to be at the forefront in bringing this innovation to the UK public."

It has also been announced by Orange that it has released the GlastoNav, a free mobile app for festival-goers.
