Devices like the Nokia N97 with N-Gage support may be among the reasons why a new report suggests mobile gaming is thriving.

In news which may be of interest to those selling mobile phones to pay for such a device, Today’s Gamers published a new study this week that shows the sector is in good health.

The group noted in the UK, the money spent on downloads joins massively multiplayer online titles in making up 16 per cent of the market – a figure that stands at 23 per cent in the US.

Although the console industry is clearly still taking the lion’s share of play money, it could suggest that more people are looking at handsets that carry technology such as Nokia’s N-Gage gaming platform.

In addition to the N97, this feature is also available on the firm’s brand new N900 model, which is currently featured on the Orange network.
