Nokia N97 users and those looking to trade in old mobiles may be buoyed by the latest announcement from the Finnish manufacturer.

A smaller version of the device has been launched in the form of the N97 mini, which the company claims has been getting some solid feedback from a host of experts and commentators.

It was also noted that a 2.0 version of the Nokia N97 software had been made readily available, which users of both the new and existing handsets could benefit from.

Commenting, Nokia Nseries vice president Jose-Luis Martinez explained that the portability of the newer model would make it attractive to people looking for a pocket-friendly device.

“In September, 2009, we exceeded two million Nokia N97 devices sold and now introduce the Nokia N97 mini, underscoring the success of the design,” he added.

It is expected that the next smartphone in the company’s line up will be the N900, although this has yet to receive an official release date.
