Using a mobile phone to take pictures is a fun and rewarding pastime for many people, with a number of potential uses for the snaps.

Rhiain, writing the Nokia Conversations blog, says 47 per cent of people choose to put their photographs on the computer – perhaps in a digital album or slideshow – and the second-most popular activity is to put them on social networking sites.

In order to enjoy this, consumers may wish to possess a modern smartphone with a top-of-the-range camera.

Damian Dinning, another author of the blog, earlier this week showed images taken on the Nokia N8, due to be released later this year.

The N8 will have a 12-megapixel camera as well as the latest video recording technology, which could make it ideal for those planning to sell a mobile and upgrade to a media-friendly model.

Alternatively, users could turn their attention to devices such as the iPhone 4 and HTC Wildfire, both of which offer a camera.
