Consumers have been asked by the mobile manufacturer Nokia what issues they think it should be looking at in order to minimise damage to the environment.

The Nokia Conversation blog posed the question “Do you think Nokia should be focusing efforts on recycling, reducing packaging or energy consumption? Or something else entirely?”.

A recent online discussion hosted by the website of the Guardian newspaper – during which issues such as ethical purchases, sustainability and green mobiles were all on the agenda – prompted the new survey.

People who are currently considering upgrading their existing phone but have not yet considered what to do with their existing device may wish to opt for recycling a mobile for cash.

Mobile recycling can help to prevent the environmental damage that occurs when a phone is disposed of via landfill.

Recent research from analysts Canalys found that 55 per cent of the smartphone market in the fourth quarter of last year consisted of touchscreen devices, which could be purchased after selling an old phone.
