Nokia E75 and E72 users could soon see a number of new applications available for their handsets as the manufacturer revealed the finalists of a recently launched contest.

The Calling All Innovators competition is designed to get people across the globe thinking about what facilities could be integrated into the latest phones – with winners sharing a total cash and prize fund worth over $250,000 (£151,360).

Purnima Kochikar, vice-president of the Forum Nokia Developer Community, said the level of quality and the number of entrants for the 2009 event had been “astounding”.

“Turning the spotlight on our developers in marketing efforts like Calling All Innovators is just one way we can expose the best mobile applications from our developer community to consumers around the world,” he added.

Among the finalists are Pixelpipe’s for Share Online – a widget used to distributing various media files and Dianping, an information resource for restaurants.

Tech Buzz – an electronics news aggregator – was also named as a possible winner, when the announcement is made on September 1st.
