An extra one billion people on the planet could be using a Nokia mobile phone to browse the internet, if the firm achieves its objectives.

Nokia World, the Finnish brand's annual conference, was held recently and experts set the target for the company to head towards.

It believes its ability to provide high-quality and powerful technology that is also affordable to many will see many turn to the models it produces.

Speaking at the event, Nokia's executive vice-president for mobile phones Mary McDowell stated: "It is the mobile phone that will offer the first PC-like experience for many of the next billion people who will come online."

Another way the company hopes to achieve success all around the globe is by offering locally-relevant apps and services from its Ovi Store.

Nokia has recently announced the release of the N8 will take place on September 30th, while a trio of new handsets – the E7, C6 and C7 – have been confirmed.
