Consumers around the UK may be planning to sell mobiles in order to get their hands on a new device launched by Orange and Barclaycard.

The firms have teamed up to launch the Samsung Wave 578 that boasts the revolutionary ‘quick tap’ contactless payment system.

This means owners can use the mobile to pay for goods in shops around the country that support the technology.

Available in black, the handset is said to be based on a classy design and has a user-friendly set-up, ensuring it is simple to complete all the most common tasks.

“Paying with a mobile phone means never being without the right change, and always having access to funds. That’s why I believe contactless mobile is the future of payments,” explained David Chan, chief executive officer of Barclaycard Consumer Europe.

Earlier this month, Orange updated its Business Sense programme to incentivise the take-up of mobile phones by companies.
