Nokia has launched a new handset that it claims is one of the slimmest and most stylish of its kind.

Following on from smartphones including the 5800 XpressMusic and ahead of the upcoming N97, the Finnish manufacturer has detailed the specifications of the E71x.

Combining a “sophisticated” qwerty keyboard and high-speed 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, Nokia claims the device is “the ideal companion for people who enjoy easy messaging and connecting with their friends”.

In addition, it is noted the latest phone in the E series range is equipped with a 3.2-megapixel camera with auto-focus, fast access to social networking facilities and an integrated media player.

The company claims the phone answers a growing demand for text-focused handsets – reflected in a recent study which showed 52 per cent of US consumers said they would prefer to send an email or SMS rather than make a voice call.

Other devices in the Nokia range that feature a qwerty keyboard include the 5730 XpressMusic – which may interest those recycling mobile phones.
