Apple has announced it has sold over three million of its new iPad despite only launching the device less than a week ago.
Experts claimed at the launch of the product that it needed to break all sorts of sales records for it to be successful and doubted whether consumers would buy a new iPad each year, much in the same way they have with the iPhone.
These figures suggest that people have upgraded in their droves and the device garnered so much interest that a number of countries reported they had run out of stock because of the sheer number of pre-orders.
Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing Philip Schiller said the new handset is a “blockbuster” and it is the strongest iPad launch yet.
“Customers are loving the new iPad and we can’t wait to get it into the hands of even more customers around the world this Friday [when it will be launched in a further 24 countries],” he added.
