Music lovers may be wise to trade-in their mobile phone and splash out on a new Apple handset in order to enjoy iTunes 10 with Ping.

The manufacturer yesterday (September 1st) revealed the latest version of its iconic music and video download service, which will include a social networking element for the first time.

This will allow users to compare their views on tracks, clips and programmes with friends, as well as match up the concerts they plan to attend.

"With Ping you can follow your favourite artists and friends and join a worldwide conversation with music's most passionate fans," explains Steve Jobs, chief executive officer at Apple.

The technology also offers the ability to follow favourite artists to ensure their latest news and gig plans are not missed.

Perhaps the ideal handset for using iTunes 10 with is the Apple iPhone 4, released in the UK on June 24th.
