It appears as though Nestle has leaked the date that Android will release its KitKat update for mobile phones.

Nestle Germany replied to a user on Facebook saying "Hi Tim, Android 4.4 KIT KAT is available in October".

This would tie in with rumours which have indicated that Google is planning an event on October 14th and the search engine juggernaut is expected to make some big announcements.

It would mean that Android KitKat could arrive alongside Google's Nexus 5 and the device could serve as the operating system's flagship handset.

If Nestle's date is right, you can expect that the Nexus will be one of the first to get the free download which could increase its launch appeal for many users.

Nothing has been confirmed by the bosses at either Google or Android so nothing can be taken for certain.
