Shopping for devices like the Motorola W233 Renew is one way to act in a green manner, but one expert has called for wider adoption of green practices.

A spokeswoman for Friends of the Earth said this week that while she was in favour of recent environment committee suggestions on tackling the amount of waste that goes to landfill, it was now time for action.

Jenny Bates, a campaigner for the group, explained that plans to convert more unwanted items into energy across London would be welcome, as long as this was something that could be realistically delivered.

"The mayor must now focus on improving London’s recycling rate to cut waste, slash carbon emissions and create new jobs."

Ms Bates’ comments follow a report from the London Assembly Environment Committee, which explained that up to 22 million tonnes of waste generated in the capital could be used to create energy for around two million homes.
